Every year Ann attends a number of conferences
relating to the above subjects to ensure safe-practice and
up-to-date skills.
She is a daughter, sister (two brothers),
wife (one husband), mother (two sons), and grandmother (three
grandsons). So it is no wonder that she specialises in working
with women!
What are my feelings
of birth?
By Ann McLeod
Taylor
I think pregnancy and
birth are the most wonderful processes on earth, and
I feel very blessed that I have been able to spend the
last 35+ years in my chosen profession. Amongst the
many things that I have learnt is to “trust your
body to give you the right information” and that
despite modern knowledge and technology, “birth
is as safe as life gets.”

Ann was born in Nairobi Kenya, lived in
Mombassa for many years, going to school at Loretto Convent,
and Boarding school in England at the Towers, Upper Beeding
in Sussex. Her general training was completed in England,
in the Royal Navy, in Portsmouth, Malta and Plymouth. Her
midwifery training was completed in Brighton, Chatham and
Tunbridge while also attending an pperating theatre course
in Sheffield. She worked in many hospitals, large and small,
and assisted many mothers birth in their own home.
She chose to come to Australia in 1970 and
has worked in many places including Thursday Island, Townsville,
Newcastle, Muttaburra, Ipswich and Brisbane. She also spent
two years in PNG.
She now works as a Midwife, mainly in the
labour ward, but also in the well baby nursery and post
natal ward when required. She works night-duty in one of
Brisbane’s large private hospitals, where she's enjoyed
working with the many wonderful people there over the last
18 years.
Her business started in 1996. Its aim was
to provide a safe and comfortable environment for mothers-to-be,
to help them gain the benefits of a relaxing pregnancy massage,
be provided with up-to-date information and also a place
where they could come afterwards with their babies to debrief
and relax, while having their tight muscles eased with a
massage.
Childbirth
courses fell into place, as she
was already conducting them at her workplace, and realised
that frequently couples missed out on information due to
not being able to attend courses due to time constraints
and work commitments, not to mention those who lived overseas
or in other parts of Australia but were birthing in Brisbane.
She wanted to be able to provide more individual courses,
at different times to suit busy families. She wanted to
encourage them to look at their options and make decisions
for themselves, so that they could be happy with the choices
that they made.
Ann wanted to grow something that she can
continue with when she chooses to retire from the workforce,
as she feels she still has a lot to give.
She is registered with the
Queensland Nurse's Council and is a member of:
-
The Nurse's Union
-
The Australian College
of Midwives
-
Childbirth Education
Association
-
National Association
of Nurse Massage Therapists
-
Previously a member of International and
Australian Lactation Consultants Association but still an associate member of Australian Lactation Consultants Association.
