Hypnotherapy is a fancy name for something which is completely natural. We all go through a hypnotic state as we lie in bed, just about to go to sleep or as we wake up, when we watch and get involved in a movie, read an interesting book, play an electronic game, or even drive the car on a familiar road, and suddenly arrive at our destination without an accident but haven't been aware of the traffic. It's like your conscious mind takes a holiday and the subconscious mind is active in keeping the body safe.

The conscious mind is the conductor and likes to issue orders, while the subconscious mind is the driver, worker, storage facility, keeping the body running even when we sleep storing everything from our lifetime including "good" and "bad" habits, events, emotions and memories.

How does hypnotherapy feel?
Because you have chosen to, you will feel very relaxed and be refreshed afterwards.

Will I lose control?
Will you run around like a chicken or a lunatic? Tell secrets or rob banks? NO!!!

You are very aware, you can hear everything around you, should you be disturbed, you will be wide awake and function normally. It is very safe, as you have chosen to be involved. You are involved in creating the suggestions and visualisations. The hypnotherapist is only helping YOU take control.
We also provide hypnosis for other areas

Hypnosis may help reduce morning sickness, high blood pressure, anxiety and insomnia. It can also help you to stop smoking, with weight reduction, phobias and various unwanted behaviours.

How does hypnotherapy help in childbirth?
  • Childbirth is a natural and healthy process. A woman's mind and body have an in-built instinctive programme for childbirth.
  • Relaxation is the key to a happy and healthy pregnancy and birth. Regular relaxation helps to keep your pulse and blood pressure in the normal range and helps your body to co-ordinate its contractions properly.
  • Relaxation also increases the pain threshold which means that pain can be reduced or abolished. This means that contractions are experienced more as sensations of tightening or pressure, rather than pain.
  • The more relaxed you are, the more resistant you are to stress, tension or pain.
  • Your relaxation has a direct impact on your baby, helping him/her be more relaxed, happy and contented, making the boding more easy between the three of you.
  • Relaxation also aids in the recovery process to enable the womb to heal more quickly.
  • Relaxation also aids with breastfeeing and milk production, helps you to maintain a bright and positive mood and boosts your confidence and ability to cope.

What kind of suggestions are made?
Your breathing is slow and deep, giving your baby and body the oxygen they need to function. With each contraction you will relax deeper and deeper. Feel your body relax and open to allow your baby to come to your arms.

How many sessions are needed?
Following A Childbirth Education course through this Centre a minimum of 2 sessions are recommended of approx one and a half hours for the first session.  We cover your wishes and history and one hour duration for the remainder, with practice at home, at least once or twice a day.
